I chose the stanza 11 in the fifth teaching. The stanza says "Relinquishing attachment, men of discipline perform action with body, mind, understanding, and senses for the purification of the self."
I was talking to one of my friends back home and he is making decisions on colleges. He told me that his girlfriend wanted him to go to a college that was near The University of Pittsburgh. He had the options of either going to Duquesne University, which is about five minutes from Pitt, or to go to Penn State. This is when I told him the stanza and then there was about a minute long pause on the other side of the phone. Then he broke out laughing and made fun of me for about five minutes, but I told him seriously that you can't be attached with this action. It has to be a choice that is all about you and only you. Picking a college is not about your girlfriend and where she is going and its not about where your friends are planning on going. It should be based only on you and what you want, because it is your life and this is a major part in what you will do with it. My friend now understood where I was coming from and told me why didn't I just say that and I told him my CIE prof. made me do it. I chose this stanza because it make sense that some decisions have to be made without attachment so that you can further improve yourself and not just to please people or the choice with the least amount of work involved.
