The Not So Meek

In my view it seemed that the statement in Matthew 5-7 that is most important is "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth." It seems that God's overall message is to just chill out in this life time and not get so greedy when it comes to material goods or the Earth on a larger scale. However, this is rarely ever the case in the real world, where the passive person who doesn't stand out in the crowd doesn't really benefit in the least. They just trudge about their daily lives not performing any spectacular task or trying to reach a higher understanding; are these the people to whom God wants to entrust the Earth? Perhaps this is just another message of God's wishing to be dominant over man, by saying those of you who are good and uninteresting will be rewarded for your lack of character. I cannot think of one well known person in the world who was meek and became famous or "inherited the earth" in any way. People may point to men of humility, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. or Gandhi and say that they were extremely successful being meek. However, they were not meek, they were civily disobedient and carved a niche for themselves in history. And those who do comply with society and become famous are outgoing or ingenius, never just they everyday citizen who wants nothing that he doesn't have. I disagree with this lesson and believe that is why it is so ignored and important. There is something to the nature of being meek, it hides from adversity and doesn't look toward its own benefit nearly enough. Perhaps this lesson is right though and the meek are going to inherit the Earth from God and no one can stop him. Well, ten minutes after the meek inherit the Earth, the not so meek are just going to take it back from them. It is not a statement of nature, it is a statement of attitude, and Matthew 5-7 preaches the entirely wrong type of attitude in my humble soft spoken opinion.
