The most important and ignored teaching in Matthew 5-7 is, “Judge not, that you be not judged.” Today the world is an extremely stereotypical place. Studies have shown that within the first two seconds of meeting someone, you have already judged that person by the impression they gave off. That first impression is extremely difficult to change, and is almost never altered. Even though many of us try not to judge a person, unconsciously judgment is still passed upon them. The fact is, you cannot truly judge a person’s character within the first two seconds of meeting someone. You are not fully able to understand a person when you already passed judgment upon them. The only way to completely understand person is when you don’t judge them in any specific way. However, God is trying to convey that you should never judge someone for their beliefs, because everyone is allowed to have contrary views.
I believe this is the most important and ignored teaching due to the world we live in today. People are judged by the clothes they wear, color of their hair, race, and religious beliefs. People make impressions just by knowing these characteristics, and not truly learning their personality. My mom always told me, “It’s not about what you see on the outside, but it’s who they are on the inside.” Many people of the world today have forgotten that common lesson they learned when they grew up. This is the most important teaching because it deals with how people interact with one another. There are extreme amounts of consequences from people judging one another in the world today. It is becoming extremely detrimental to today’s world and society, and is just continuing to take its toll on the world we live in today.
