Honor Thy Father and Mother has to be one of the most important, and most neglected commandments. It is our parents that came together and brought us into the world, they gave us life, and raised us. Yet, kids are constantly disrespecting, talking back to, and disobeying their parents. But the respect for parents should not only be shown when we are young. No matter how old one is, we should appreciate that we are here because of them. They gave us the greatest gift we could have been given: Life. No matter how much we ‘hate’ our parents, there is a base where we should honor them for bringing us into the world in the first place.
This commandment is one of the most important because it could potentially not only apply to our birth parents but God, whom is commonly referred to as Our Father. People show respect and love for God through displaying respect and love for his creations, including parents. This commandment is the first one to address how humans should act towards one another, giving it even more importance. Yet it seems to be one of the first commandments broken in a young child’s life.
