In America today, everyone following the commandments is an extremely scarce thought. However in today’s society it is hard for most people to obey the fourth commandment, remember the Sabbath day to hallow it. In the revised standard version of the Bible, the commandment states, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all they work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God.” This is the most important and neglected commandment. The fourth commandment is the most important because God created the day of the Sabbath for his followers to praise him and show their love for him. However, today’s society forces this commandment to be neglected. Many avid believers of God are forced to work on the day of the Sabbath. They have to work to support their families, and the needs of the American population. America’s needs forced this commandment to be neglected. In other countries with a wide Christian population stores and businesses are shut down on the day of the Sabbath. These religious countries make sure that the Sabbath day is reserved for the worship of God. However, the problem with preserving the Sabbath day in America is the wide range of religions. America has to provide for its melting pot of different religions, therefore setting one day aside for the Sabbath day would be unfair and biased towards Christianity. The fourth commandment is the most important commandment dating back to the creation of the earth. This commandment however has been forced to the back burner due to historical elements and the changes of society today.
